Fit Woman Boot Camp

When you think of boot camp, you think 5am wake up calls, being scremed at by a commando, and living on bread and water. It was nothing like that. My boss and I had been toying with the idea for about a year now and one day we decided we were going to bite the bullet. Lots of googling and reseach found us at FitWoman Boot Camp. A 5 or 7 day residential boot camp that claims you can lose up to 14lbs in under a week. Yes please! We called and were offered a space on the course for the next week which was only 5 days away. We said yes and the next Monday we were on our way down to Bournemouth for 5 days of gruelling exercise and diet. Oh and no make up, hair dryer, or straightener!

I was nervous and anxious as to be honest we didnt really know what to expect. I used to be a pro dancer so I knew I would be able to tackle anything that was thrown at me but being at my biggest and unhealthiest had me worried. Our trainer and the owner Spencer Cuckney has over 20 years personal training experience and specialises in fitness and weight loss for women. Spencer teams up with some world class athletes such as John Orchard, three times world champion in kickboxing and Jenny Prowse, British kickboxing champion and European Thai boxing champion. If these guys cant works off the pounds, no one can! We all know that exercise is no good without a decent diet too. On the team is Diana Green, the nutritionist and chef. If you are expecting to live on celery all week, think again. Diana's meal were delicious, nutritious and filling. She really helps to retrain your body on portion control. There was never a point in the week where I was genuinely hungry. A typical lunch was pepper stuffed with Quinoa and honey salmon. Dinner consisted of thai fish soup (seriously amazing) or rogan josh. All the meals and snacks are designed to be healthy and give you just the right amount of energy and nutrition to get you to the next meal.

Each day was different in terms of activities and meals but they all had a similar pattern...

7am- Breakfast
8am- Power hike
10am- snack
10am-1pm boot camp session, abs, boxing.
1pm- Lunch
1.30pm-4pm surfing
4pm - snack
4.30pm- 6pm beach hike
7pm- dinner
8pm- cooking classes, massage, relaxation time

The activites changed each day and the locations meaning you never got bored. The local scenery is amazing especially the beaches which made 4 mile walks that bit better!! The exercise and fresh air meant we were exhausted every night but by the end of the week we felt amazing. Refreshed and revitalised.

One thing I wasnt expecting was to make some really good friends. I luckily had my boss with me so we werent too worried about being on our own but the other girls made the trip. We laughed so much which made being away from home and families that bit easier.

Good trainers are your friends. I unfortunately suffered really bad blisters which were so bad that I couldnt put trainers on and had to sit some activities out.

How did I get on? We had our weigh in on the Friday morning which marked 4 days. I lost 7 pounds in those 4 days along with 1.5 inches from my bust and 2.5 inches from my waist. Not bad seen as I couldnt do everything!

My plan now?? To stick to 1500 cals a day and carry on training. I have set myself goals which I think are achieveable and I will be reporting back.

And the ultimate question-

Would I recommend Fit Woman Boot camp?
Absolutley. It has changed my way of thinking and set me on the right track. This has been the kick start I needed and I will be returning for another 5 or 7 days for my next boost. This is a great idea fo brides to be, to get you bikini ready and even to shift that last half a stone.
I cant rave about this enough. If you are thinking about doing it, just go for it. And tell Spencer I sent you :)
Please feel free to ask any questions you have, I will happily answer them.

Frizz Ease... Back to the Old School

Ever think back to the times before you just had to have the newest shampoo on the market to try, or 5 different black eyeliners? Before I spent all my hard earned wages on make up and skin care, there was a time where I would use the same products over and over again... yes its true!

So going back I rediscovered Frizz Ease. Before the time of hair straightners, yes I am that old, I had to rely on a round brush and a hairdryer. Lets just say it wasnt always pretty. I needed all the help I could get. Frizz Ease hair serum was a must have. I sleek it through wet hair and it slicks my style into place even when I rough dry. It weighs down my fine hair meaning it looks thicker and shinier but doesnt make it greasy or flat.

Perfect! What products got you through those tough years?

Max Factor Colour Effect Collection

When I think of Max Factor, I think of mascara and face products, colour doesnt really spring to mind.

Max Factor have launched a new range called Colour Effect. The collection contains eyeshadows, lipglosses and nail polishes. There are 38 colours in the range starting rom £3.49. The lipgloss flavours range from zesty lemon to watermelon. Nail polishes with names like Diva Violet and Red Carpet Glam, eyeshadow trios and dip-in eye shadows to boot.

I have a few dip-in eye shadows from a different brand and love them. They are quick, easy to use and great for travelling. Bronzed glow is particularly nice :), swatch below. The lipglosses are non sticky and give a subtle look whilst smelling nice. I have to say I will be steering clear of the brown one, not my colour at all for lips.

The range will be on Max Factor stands in June.

Vogue Italia Shoot

Just an average day in the office for Katie. Not only is Katie beautiful, she has just completed the London Marathon and assists Kay Montano, here is the goss from a recent shoot... for Italian Vogue no less!

The Italian Vogue shoot for Jewellery designer Yvonne Gold was all about contrasting textures and playing with soft and rough edges. Kay Montano was in charge of make-up and created an amazing look for each of the three models. The photographer, Mark Lebon, didn't use a digital camera, which makes for a fun and challenging shoot and his team delevoped the photographs during the shoot using a home made dark room in the studio!!

Look 1: Boudoir
Kay used the myface.cosmetics midnight hour trio to create an elongated soft charcoal and black smoky eye. She used a long soft haired brush and swept outwards the enhance the models wideset eyes. To get the delicate, barely there base she used Becca concealer, Jurlique powder and myface.cosmetics foundation in Medium 1. The model's cheek bones and bridge of the nose were highlighted with gold and silver shimmer powders from Ruby & Millie mixed with facial oil. I love love love the updo that hair legend Johnnie Sapong has created!

vogue italy 3

Look 2: Aetherial
Kay used Mac Studio Sculpt in NO15, which gave the model's face a gorgeous glowing, pearlescent sheen. Using Laura Mercier concealer and a clean mascara wand she toned down the models dark brows. This look was meant to be really angelic and cherubic. For a finishing touch Kay dabbed some tinted lip balm over the lips, smudging it over the lip line, to get the "I've just been eating cherries" look.

vogue italy 1

Look 3: Oily black smoky eye
Kay created a flawless velvetty base by using bobbi brown foundations and a Ruby & Millie concealer (she applies her foundation with a sponge and her finger tips.) Glossy black cream eye shaddow was applied around the eyes with a brush, which naturally 'slipped' to create a really smouldering look.

Look out for Kay's work in Vogue Italia September issue.

Code Red - Pedicure Time

As soon as the sun comes out, we are panic inside about being bikini ready and dragging out those tootsies that have stayed firmly inside a cloud of ugg boots for te last 6 months. Yep, its flip flop time. I happily live in flip flops all summer, but that means the upkeep of pedicures and pampering those feet. When panic mode sets in, there isnt always time to book and wait for your pedicure appointment. The Sanctuary have launched their foot care range and it has lovely new packaging. My steps to flip flop ready feet are;

1. Pedegg. Yes the cheese grater for feet that looks like it might rip your skin off, but actually is pretty gentle considering the aim of it. I use this on dry feet.

2. Foot Soak. Some nice warm bubbles to soak for a while. You can do this step whilst in the bath.

3. Spa Essentials Luxury Foot Polish. This is 'extra scrubby' to slough away dead skin cells and polish your skin. I use this with exfoliating gloves for maximum effect.

4. Intensive Rescue Heel Balm. I use this on the back part of my foot and work upwards towards the ankle to ensure the whole area is fully moisturised.

5. Moisture Rich Foot Butter. This is applied to the rest of my foot, add thick socks and you're good to go.

In winter I normally give myself a pedicure once every 2-3 weeks just for upkeep so I dont have feet like the grinch come spring time. In summer I normally do this once a week and moisturise in between whenever needed. If you're going to whack out the flip flops, make sure your feet are ready for summer. And girls... no one likes unpainted toe nails. A slick of a coral/bright pink is all it takes! The Sanctuary footcare range comes in perfect for travelling sizes so you can throw them in your suitcase too.

Are your feet ready for summer??

Summer Hair a la Lee Stafford...

So its not long before most of you will be jetting off for some sun sea and sangria. You tweeted me your questions, and the lovely Lee Stafford answered them for you!

My hair is dry and looks frazzled, what shall I do to boost its life again?

· Naturally fine, lifeless, brittle hair is caused by a variety of factors: poor nutrition, stress or hormonal changes. Styling without protecting the hair or not injecting it with a regular dose of moisture can also prove deadly to shiny, glossy hair. Use my Colour Love Treatment £5.99 200ml to put the love back into your hair and always use my Poker Straight Flat Iron Mist £4.99 200 ml before you use any heated appliance on your hair.

I want to keep my hair looking fresh all day during the summer what shall I do?

· To minimize the effects of humidity and maintain your hairstyle throughout the day, the best way to overcome the effects of humidity is to work with the natural texture of your hair. Rather than fighting to smooth and straighten curly hair, select a style that works with your natural waves. For those with a natural wave and want that tousled natural look, try my Beach Babe Sea Salt Spray £5.99. Dead Sea salt brings out natural waves and curls whilst keeping hair in great condition.

- My hair is freshly coloured ready for 2 weeks in the sun, how can I keep it that way?

- If your hair is porous, it is more likely that you will lose your colour more quickly. You must make sure that you keep using moisture rich treatments on your hair which help to lock down your cuticles so the colour cannot escape through the porosity of the hair strand. The better condition your hair is in the longer your colour will last for. Firstly use my Colour Love Shampoo and Conditioner £4.49 which contain UV filters to hold colour and keep it looking vibrant for longer. For an extra treat try my Hot Shots 2 Minute Miracle £6.99 which are self warming treatments to keep your hair healthy and shiny and is essential in putting the moisture back after hair has been battered and bruised by the sun.

My hair goes limp after 5 minutes in the heat, I want my volume back, help!

Humidity plus fine limp hair can be hard to handle in the summer months as excess moisture from your scalp as well as the air can make it appear flatter. Try my Matt Fat Powder £8.99. A brand new clever powder styler for big fat Bardot film star hair! This magic powder dust will dry up oily roots and help to create a natural textured look in hair, giving you a volumised matt finish. Not only does it add volume abut it also creates a natural textured look. Simply shake to wake the pot of powder puff potion sprinkle a small amount onto your hair (like a salt shaker). Rub the powder into your roots to pad out your hair. Simply pop in your handbag and re-apply throughout the day to shake up, wake up and big up your hair.

I love styling on my hair for nights out in the summer but my hair doesnt stay put, what shall I use?

· Eliminating the oil from the hair will keep it in place. Try my Poker Straight Dry Shampoo £4.99 which you spray directly onto your roots - hot weather can increase sebum production, resulting in greasy roots appearing more quickly which leads to lank, lifeless hair!! This conditioning yet thickening spray, provides light conditioning, as well as a volumising effect - whilst Modified Corn Starch mops up any excess moisture. Betaine helps to reduce stickiness and increase natural movement within the hair shaft ensuring hair is soft and supple.

· Another great trick is to not battle with the inevitable heat induced hair drooping later, learn how to do a really simple yet glam hair up . . . so if your hair is gone past the point of no return and you simply want a sophisticated look with no fuss, the best thing to do is wrangle your hair into a side knot

You will need

· A black/transparent snag free band

· 10 hair pins

· 10 kirby grips

· 1 can of flicktease hairspray (handbag sized)

· Put a side parting into your hair

· Roughly sweep your hair round into a side ponytail so it is just under and behind your ear,

· Just as you are fixing the pony tail into place with the snag free band and you are on the final tightest loop, don’t pull your hair all the way through

· This will have created a loop in your hair

· You are then going to roughly pin the loop into a messy knot around the band (so it covers the band)

· Pull a couple of loose strands around your face and fix the messy knot with a little bit of Flicktease hairspray for extra staying power

· It’s a great sophisticated yet contemporary style that’s perfect for parties and takes minutes to do.

No need to stress anymore!! Got anymore questions for Lee? Tweet, email or comment them below and I will get them answered!

Organic Surge

Organic Surge is a paraben, sodium lauryl/laireth sulphate free skin care range which contains naturally derived 'skin loving' ingredients which help stimulate cellular metabolism and support active skin cell repair. My friend Hannah tried out some of the range, here is what she thought...

The moisturiser comes in a glass jar which i prefer to a tube, as you don't waste any by squeezing out too much. The moisturiser is un perfumed or coloured which is great for sensitive skin & eyes. The consistency is light and rubs on to the skin easily and sinks in straight away leaving a good base for make up application. Unlike some moisturisers it does not leave a greasy film over the skin. If you have particularly dry skin I do not recommend this cream as it is so light. I would probably recommend this for most people to use as a day cream only and perhaps a stronger more moisturising cream to leave on over night. For 'normal' skin it is great & keeps the skin moisture perfectly topped up.

Like all the Organic products, the body scrub is un perfumed. I usually use a body scrub 2/3 times a week so swapped to this one for a month or so. I usually use Radox smoothies so wanted to compare. I personally prefer a nice fresh smelling body scrub/shower gel, this is something this one lacked. However it would be great if you react to scented products. The consistency was fairly runny meaning you needed to re apply a few times. I found the exfoliating 'balls' to be fairly sparse and couldn't really feel them working on my skin. I would prefer a higher consistency of them. It did leave my skin feeling moisturised but I have used better body scrubs and think i will be swapping back to Radox to get that extra smooth feeling!

The eye gel comes in a small pump operated tube. This is perfect as it can be carried around with you in a handbag for a mid day perk up! One pump is enough for application to both eyes so a tube is extremely economical and should last a while. The consistency is as you'd expect, a clear, unscented gel. Upon application you immediately feel a cooling sensation and it never stung which is quite un usual for me as i have a sensitive eye area. I used it morning and night for a few weeks and noticed a difference. My eyes used to get irritated after make up removal or moisturising. Using the gel seemed to improve this. Morning puffiness is reduced as well so no one need know you only had 3 hours sleep! It provides a great base for eye shadow application which can sometimes be ruined by dry skin around the area. I would advise this to anyone who wants their eyes to look and feel more awake!

The body moisturiser has a fairly runny consistency and is quite light. It sinks in to the skin straight away but you need quite a lot of it to cover the body. It is unscented. The moisturiser does not irritate after shaving which is a huge plus! i would prefer a thicker consistency for my sort of skin to leave it more moisturised but if your skin is not particularly dry then i would recommend this one.
Organic Surge is sold in most supermarkets including Boots, you can also buy online via their website. What are you favourite Organic Surge products?

Revlon Photoready Foundation

You know when you look back on photos and you resemble casper? That would be the light reflecting particles in your foundation. They look great on a night out, but not so much in the pictures.

Revlon's Photoready Foundation is much anticipated and has already gone down a storm. Its been compared to its older sister Colorstay and even Nars Sheer Glow. In my opinion, this is 10 times better than colorstay for what I am looking for in a foundation. I prefer glowy and dewy to matte and full coverage. There has been talks that this doesnt last all day. Its lasting power is lower than most but a tiny dusting of powder sets it for the day meaning I dont need to reapply. This is easier to work with than colorstay too which I find dries too quickly for me to make sure its blended.

So a big thumbs up from me and one to add to my top 3.

Well done Revlon, you've just bettered yourself.

Lavender Week...

Right now we are in the middle of Lavender week. Yep the smell of our grannies! Just don't under-estimate the benefits of it.

I am aving struggling to switch off at night and get a good nights sleep. As soon as I started using Tisserand De-Stress bath oil and EO French Lavender bubble bath, I have slept so well. I use both in a hot bath before climbing into bed. The first morning after I used this I noticed I had drifted off to sleep quicker into a deeper sleep. Ahhhhh heaven! Get ready for the bubbles!

Top Tip- Keep the bathroom door closed while you run your bath to keep the scent and heat in.

Do you use anything to help you switch off at night??

Sebastian Light

As soon as those warmer days come round, I find myself washing my hair more than I would like to. I just feel so much cleaner and refreshed when I was my hair, but this has its downsides too;

Dry hair from washing out the natural oils and sing heat more freqently, product build up from the extra products I'm using and so on...

So its time to delve into 'frequent' use shampoo and conditioner ranges. Its not really something I like as in the past the 2 in 1 conditioners have left my hair feeling yuck! Introducing Sebastian Light, there is a shampoo and conditioner in the range.

'Light shampoo is weightless to purify and cleanse hair without any residue. Light Conditioner is also weightless and is a pro-shine conditioner to infuse hair with flawless shine.'

My main fear was mank/lank and a bit blah hair, but thankfully I needn't worry with this. This is the perfect shampoo for summer for me, wanting to wash my hair most days. Men would love this. Most blokes end up washing their hair most days to get rid of the products they've used. My bottles has already taken a hit! I will be moving this into my secret cupboard! On holiday I wash my hair everyday so this will be winging its way to somewhere hot and sunny with me :)

Which frequent use products do you use?
