My skin hero...

Tea Tree has always been the big 'thing' when it comes to fighting spots. Recently I had a break out and gave Tissernad Tea Tree Clear Skin Recovery balm a go. That was a mouthful! I have tried a few tea tree prodcts in the past and have never been wowed... ahem, Lush Grease Lightning.

I started using this and within a week, my skin was clear and evened out, redness was reduced and my face looked a whole lot fresher. You can use this as a moisturiser too. I was worried that I would end up with clear, dry skin, but not a flake in sight. I know its so cliche but my skin has taken a turn for the better and I'm no longer worried about constantly touching up my chin! Goodbye break out! Hello summer skin! This is lovely to use at the end of a long day as it is so refreshing!

I also tested this out after threading my brows. I always break out after a wax/thread so I slathered this on for a few days to reduce the breakout. Who wants gorgeous brows with a breakout?! No, ta.

What do you use when you break out?

Illamasqua Body Electrics SS10

You may have already heard about Illamasqua's new SS10 range, Body Electrics. The promo shots alone sell this one! Love! Illamasqua is a brand I can stare at all day in wonder and their new collection is no exception.
They say... 'Body Electrics is inspired by the power of kinetic energy, the art of movement, the fluidity of the body in motion. The collection is an anthology of creams, powders and dry body oils infused with light, shimmer and shine, designed to highlight and contour your whole body. Containing hyper-pigmented light-reflecting particles that ignite the skin with intense colours and finishes, each product in the range has been created to accentuate the body's every twist and turn to exquisite perfection, ensuring you exude a confidence that's more than skin deep...'

Unfortunately for me, I cant go to work everyday like the girls in the promo shots. But even for the 99% of us that fall into this category, we can still make the products work for us. And that is what I believe is great about this brand.

I was lucky enough to be sent the body oil and the bronzer, both are the products to the brand. The body oil is a dry oil which doesn't sit on the skin. Used lightly, it catches the light and gives that sun kissed look that you only normally get after 2 weeks in the carribean! I have tried this over my fake tanned arms and it made me look healthier and fresher. This is perfect for summer evenings out where you want to glow without sitting in the sun. This is buildable too so you can have as much or as little shimmer as you like. Plus it smells good too! Dont ask me what the smell is, but its nice! The oil is also presented in a glass bottle which will look great on the dresser!

The bronzer is lovely! colour wise think Barry M bronzer/Benefit Dallas, however the shimmer through it, makes it. There is a gold pearl all the way through which only shows up in the light. It acts the same on your skin too so you dont need to worry about looking like a disco ball. For me, it has just the right amount of shimmer.

You should check out their new brochure too. Their foundations are shown on real faces so its a million times easier to colour match yourself without going to a counter.

What is on your wishlist from the Body Electrics collection??

Tigi Catwalk Your Highness

Tigi have launched a new line from their Catwalk Range called Your Highness. Volume? Yes please.

I got my mitts on the hairspray. Wow, is all I can say. Its backcombing in a can. I spray this on my roots and immeadiately I have full volume. So much volume in fact that I had to tame it down a bit. It doesnt go too hard either. If you spray it too close, this will happen so be aware! It is really easy to brush out though if that does happen. You can skip the backcombing, hair ripping step with this.

Not only so I think this is amazing, it smells like lovely too. No harsh chemical smells to gas you out. If they bought a perfume out of this, it would sell!

As with most Tigi products, it comes with a price tag. This is £9.50, but you get 300ml for that which is bigger than most hairsprays on the shelves. Although this is great for volume I wouldnt use it to set my hair or hold curls in place. That would be more suited to Garnier or Aussie.
Backcombing in a can right here!

Phillip Kingsley Elazticizer

You may have heard of Phillip Kingsley, my first encounter was years ago in a super expensive salon when Tresemme was my choice of shampoo!
Phillip Kingsley is a Trichologist with over 50 years experience in hair care. His product range is based on your hair type and not your hair condition. Firstly you choose your hair type;

FINE
MEDIUM
COARSE

Then choose a processing type;

1. Shorter than shoulder length and/or little of no heat/processing.
2. Longer than shoulder length and/or regular heat processing.

There is then a programme of products recommended for you and it even recommends how often to use them. All of which you can do on the website here.

I used the Elasticizer- for all hair types. The science behind it is that healthy hair can stretch when its wet and return to its original length when dry. If your hair is in a bad condition, this causes breakage and snaps when its stretched. This is a pre-shampoo treatment, unlike many others on the market. You wet you hair, apply the treatment and leave it. You can leave it for however long your hair needs. My hair type is fine so I stick on the cap and leave it for 10 minutes or so. You rinse off and shampoo and condition as normal.

As soon as you rinse this off, you immeadiately feel the difference in your hair. Mine feels stronger and less damaged each time I use it. I have gone through a whole pot of this and my hair has thanked me for it. It is fragrance free too so if you suffer from a sensitive scalp, you don't have to compromise on discomfort for nice hair!

This retails at around £20 for a 150ml pot depending on where you purchase. But the pots do come in different sizes. They even sell a 20ml pot for £3.50 so you can try before you invest in a bigger pot. My pot lasted me 6-8 weeks using it 1-2 times a week. You can also get this in an 'extreme' version aimed at very dry/damaged, corrse, curly or afro hair.

I can't rave about this enough. Between this and Lee Stafford's hair growth mask, I now have long, strong, healthy hair. I definitely want to try the other products in the range.

Have you used the Elasticizer?

Perfume thoughts for Summer...

So the process of switching from Winter to Spring/Summer has begun. Normally the first step for me is perfume. My heavier scents are packed away until Autumn and my lighter ones come out. Of course there are always some new additions to the collection.

Now, I wouldn't say I am like that auntie who is always doused in perfume that after one hug (much to your dismay) you now smell of the musky scent of choice. I just like to stay fresh. There is nothing wrong with being clean smelling right? Anyone who travels on the tube during summer will understand my reasoning! Whats a light spritz here and there. I like to think that people will walk past me and get a slight whiff of my perfume. Having said this, I am not made of money so something has to give. As much as I love Chanel Chance, Jadore Dior and other iconic fragrances, the £50 plus price tag means I save them for occasions rather than work. Work perfumes fall into a category of their own. At the end of a season, shops are always selling off their discontinued fragrances cheaply. This month have taken full advantage and stocked up. Some great gems I have found along the way that I dont mind spraying to my hearts content are-

Vera Wang, Look- fresh, a bit fruity and light.

Mariah Carey, M- powdery, vanilla and fresh.

DKNY, Women- Sweet, subtle and light.

Lee Stafford, Pink Fusion- fruity.

Yes I am very articulate when it comes to describing scents!

All of these fall into my work and day to day category. Each will have pride of place in my handbag during the next 6 months before I have to give up the ghost on summer. Now you may turn your nose up at the likes of Mariah Carey for fragrances, but you will find 90% of 'celeb' fragrances are based on top brand ones and are normally quite nice. However you do need to sniff them out. Although cheaper perfumes may not last as long, I like to spritz each time I leave the house/work anyway so that doesnt bothe me.

What are your favourite scents for summer?

Eyeko favourites...

You dont have to spend an arm and a leg on make up. My collection consists of high end and drugstore/high street products. If I can find a dupe of a high end product, I'll take it. I'm not a snob...always!

Eyeko are a brand who I always look at for dupes, whether its nail varnish or my favourite 3 in 1 cream. For the prices, I don't have any complaints.
One of my fav products of the moment is their line and shine eye pencils. They are duo colour with differnet colours at each end. Mine has a black glitter on one end and silver on the other. This always stays in my travel make up bag as it instantly gives me the 'day to night' look when I am running out of the office.
What are your favourite Eyeko products?

My visit to The Sanctuary Spa

Easter Friday found me at The Sanctuary Spa in Covent Garden. It was my second visit and I took my Mum to celebrate her birthday. We first visited a few weeks before for an evening of massages and Sleep Retreat action. This time we got to spend the whole day at the spa.

We arrived at around 11am and were welcomed by big fluffy robes and flip flops. we got changed into our swimsuits and robes and entered Nirvana!

First up at 12pm, Mum had a Sanctuary massage which is a massgae customised to your needs. Mum went for full body and scalp. I had a Dreamtime Dry Floatation. Firstly they massage warm shes butter into your skin, wrap you in muslin and towels, then you float in warm water but you dont get wet...hence the dry part! The bed lowers into the water which is the strangest sensation ever. You then have a face massage and are left to relax for 20 minutes. Once you have been floating, you are then moisturised again. My skin has never felt so lovely. I am seriously considering pure shea butter as an ongoing treatment.

I then met Mum for lunch which was lovely. We had 2 courses which was starters and mains. We passed on dessert as the relaxation was enough without falling into a food coma.

Next up was pedicures. We sat in a beautifully decorated room on wicker chairs with big cushions while our toes were pampered. It was nice as we go to sit next to each other and spend some time together. Mani and Pedi's are definitely a social thing! After our freshly painted tootsies, we made our way into the Koi Lounge and up to the Sleep Retreat. I spoke about this before wen it launched. It is a room with 11 beds which have sound wave therapy so you reach a medititive state. The first time I went in here, I was worried I would fall asleep and the staff would be shouting my name to wake up. Luckily the voice takes you into meditation and back out again leaving you refreshed. The second time we went in, we knew what to expect and it was a lot easier to drift off.
After we were truly relaxed, we were left to our own devices to make use of the facilities. We started off in the jacuzzi, then the pool, then relaxed in the Koi Lounge over tea and cake!

The whole spa is extremely clean, modern and peaceful. While you are there, you dont even feel like you are in the centre of London just metres away from street theatre, shops and hustle and bustle of the tube. You really feel like you get away. The staff are so helpful and are on hand to offer any advice on skin care or products. Food and drink is also always available meaning all you need to worry about is relaxing. After you have finished your day, you get to make use to the dressing area which is full of products to use along with gorgeous mirrors and stools. I didnt want to leave!

If you are thinking of going to The Sanctuary, you should. We left relaxed, happy and it felt like a mini break. We have already planned our third trip.

Thank you to all of the staff at The Sanctuary who made our day perfect. See you next time.

Everyone needs a mini me...

When it comes to travel sizes and mini sizes, I get excited!  When I go off on holiday or away for a weekend, I dont want to compromise when it comes to my favourite products or appliances. I want my holiday snaps to look nice, not frizzy hair and no make up....oh no. I would quite happily drag my bag across an airport floor filled with full size shampoos, moisturisers and hairsprays than go without. My travel bag is constantly packed... its just a guilty pleasure :)

Luckily some brands are clued up and offer mini versions of their best sellers, some brands even offer their whole range in travel sizes.
So thank you to Lee Stafford, who knows the importance of looking good anywhere in the world! You can buy his box of tricks which contains a mini hairdryer, mini straightners and a curling wand. Meaning you can still tame your tresses in sunnier climes. The appliances all come in full size versions too so you can have a set for home & away.

What are your favourite mini products? Do you always pack travel sizes?

Some new lip products in my life...

Over the past few weeks I have accumulated some new lip products, here are my favourites!
Sanctuary Lip Balm
As you know, I love The Sanctuary. But when I heard they had a new lip balm out, I couldn't wait to try it. Then I heard it was menthol with a hint of passion fruit, I wondered what it would be like. Now, a bit of backgound, I hate it when brands mix mint with fruit, I dont like the smell. This however is totally different. The menthol is there but doesnt smell like you'd expect. Its an ingredient, that you know is there, you can feel it working, but it invisible! You are just left with tingling passion fruit lips...and yes I have nearly licked a whole pot off my lips!! At £3.99 a pot, its cheaper than dinner.

sanc lip balm

Max Factor Vibrant Curve Effect Lip Gloss

If there's a new lipgloss on the street, I want it. this was no exception. This promises to leave your lips looking more curvaceous and fuller. The wand is slanted and offers a perfect application. Unlike some brands where I seem to smear gloss all over my lips and chin, this is neat and grips the edge of your lips. The whole range is high shine. This is perfect if your lips arent as plumped as you would like but you dont want to use a plumped gloss which makes your lips feel like they are going to fall off! They arent super pigmented which means you can grab any colour and not have to worry it will clash with your outfit. The only downside is the bottle pulls off most of the gloss when you pull the applicator out which means it takes 3 or 4 dips before you get the right amount. That or I have massive lips!

Wild Organics

Once again, Mum gets to try some products out. Wild Organics is a luxury bath and body range. Mum tried out the White Willow range which is known for its stress relieving qualities. There is a moisture bath, skin lotion and skin polish in the range.

Over to you Mum...

'The range has lovely packaging which appears to be glass but isnt, it looks expensive on my bathroom shelf. The fragrance is so different from the usual products, wich makes it unique and the fragrance lasts all day. There are loads of bubbles in the bath to relax in again with that aroma that surrounds you. Using the lotion is wonderful, its soaks into the skin and you can feel the softness of it all day and right into the next day so you know it is doing your skin some good. I was worried about the fragrance and if it would overpower anything else I wore but it blended subtley.

The only downside if there was one was that the shower/bath gel didn't foam up as much as I would have liked, but the bubbles in the bath tub made up for that.

All in all a lovely product range, which is different from your everyday bath products. It looks great in the bathroom or bedroom, smells great and moisturises your body wonderfully. A lovely gift for someone or a product that you could treat yourself to.'

Is that a hint?!!

Wild Organics can be found here.

DiorShow Extase

This review was originally featured on British Beauty Blogger's blog.

'High end' mascaras have never really wowed me. I have tried a couple in the past and not been overly impressed so decided to stick with the mid range where I know I can get the results I want and need. Dior Show is a mascara that is spoken about a lot and has tempted me, and not just because the tube looks nice!

Sephora’s website says- 'DiorShow Extase provides built-in treatment benefits and high-impact lashes in a single stroke! The spherical-shaped Black Pearl Pigments create a 3D volume effect and the exclusive Metamorphosis Powders expand in size by up to 50% after application. Also, SR38 Patented Ceramid brings additional care, reconstructing damaged lashes and promoting stronger and fuller lashes. So you could say, similar to L’oreal Lash Renewal Mascara? The brush itself looks like 4 balls of natural bristles put together. It has the same formula as L’oreal Voluminous and Maybelline Volume Express.

The first day I tried it, I used it on its own and was impressed. The brush grabbed my lashes and lifted them without the help of a really hard/dry formula to hold them in place. After a long day my lashes were still in place and my eyes were not dry or irritated. Day 2 and I decided to load up the mascara - again nothing bad to report apart from I did get some crumbled mascara under my eyes at the end of a long day. Disappointing, as I really love the effect it gives. Day 3 I used Max Factor Lash Extension first and then used the Dior as a second coat. No flaking.

So the key for this mascara to work for me is to either settle for one coat or layer it up with something else! It provided an effortless wide eyed look.

What do you think of Dior mascaras?
